WHO I AM
I am Hali Hamel - a wife to Chris, a mom to Cordelia, and a friend and/or family member to an eclectic mix of wonderful people! I am a teacher, a student, a football fan, a lover of live theatre, and a wanna-be scrapbooker. I am fueled by coffee and delicious food (that is usually cooked by my wonderful husband)!
WHERE I WORK
I have just returned from maternity leave to be a teacher and teacher-librarian at Perdue School. After being away from the school setting for almost 16 months, it is exciting to return to a job that I am very passionate about. I work part-time, with the majority being library time and the remainder including teaching Computers 9 and providing coverage in the elementary classes. I have only been a teacher-librarian for one year, so I am excited to really be able to focus on this role and hopefully have a positive impact on the staff and students of our school.
WHY I AM BLOGGING
This blog is actually an assignment for EDES501, a Web 2.0 class from the University of Alberta. I will be blogging about my experiences as I experiment with a number of Web 2.0 tools. I will also be posting "current events", or great tools and sites that I hear about in my weekly wanderings through the web.
WHERE I AM CURRENTLY AT -MY 'TECHNOBILITIES'
I would say that my technology use and experience would place me in the intermediate category. I am very comfortable with the use of social bookmarking, online communication, and photosharing sites, particularly for personal use. In my work as both a teacher and a student, I have used and created a number of wikis, blogs, videos, podcasts, and prezis. I think that what prevents me from being classified as an experienced Web 2.0 user is that I tend to be much more of a consumer than producer of material. I am looking forward to exploring some new tools that will expand my professional learning network (PLN), encourage my creativity, and help me organize some of the clutter in my online world.
